Dress Code

The dress code is important at Twirl because uniformity helps to create order

in the studio for optimal learning.

GENERAL DRESS CODE INFORMATION

  • Black dancewear must be worn for all classes, with the exception of hip hop.
  • Crop tops, half tops, or sports bras (with nothing worn over them) are not allowed for any classes.
  • Please label all shoes and dancewear with full names.
  • Girls’ dancewear (for all classes except hip hop) includes leotards, shorts, jazz pants, leggings, fitted tank tops, and skirts (for ballet only). Elaborate skirts or tutus are not allowed.
  •  Tights that match the dancer’s skin tone is preferred for girls.
  • Girls must wear their hair off of their face for all classes and in a neat bun for ballet.
  • Boys’ dancewear includes T-shirts, tank tops, athletic shorts, jazz pants, tights, or form fitting sweat pants.
  • Boys 11 and older must wear a dance belt under tights, jazz pants, and bike shorts.
  • Twirl T-shirts are available for purchase in the lobby.
We love our Twirl family. My daughter has been dancing for 7 years and this is the first time she was sad that class was over. We are so happy with the love and attention she received during her classes each week.

TWIRL JUNIOR PRESCHOOL DANCE

  • Girls- Black leotard with flesh-colored tights, flesh-colored ballet shoes, black Mary Jane tap shoes. Black leotards with small skirts are okay, but tutus and elaborate skirts are not allowed.
  • Boys- Black Twirl T-shirt (available for purchase in the Twirl lobby), black athletic shorts or sweat pants, black tap shoes, black slip-on jazz shoes.

 

TAP/JAZZ COMBINATION CLASSES (ages 5-7)

  • Girls- Black dancewear (leotards with flesh colored tights; dance shorts; jazz pants; leggings; and fitted tank tops), black Mary Jane tap shoes, and tan slip-on jazz shoes.
  • Boys- Black dancewear (T-shirts, tank tops, athletic shorts, jazz pants, or sweat pants), black lace-up tap shoes, and black slip-on jazz shoes.

BALLET/JAZZ COMBINATION CLASSES (ages 5-7)

  • Girls- Black leotard, flesh-colored tights, flesh-colored canvas ballet shoes (preferably split soles), and tan slip-on jazz shoes.
  • Boys- Black dancewear (T-shirts, tank tops, athletic shorts, jazz pants, tights, or form fitting sweat pants), black canvas ballet shoes (preferably split soles), and black slip-on jazz shoes.

 

BALLET 

  • Girls-Black leotard, flesh-colored tights, and flesh-colored canvas ballet shoes (preferably split sole) with hair in a neat bun. Black dance shorts can be worn and black ballet skirts are optional.
  • Boys- Black dancewear (T-shirts, tank tops, athletic shorts, jazz pants, tights, or form fitting sweat pants) and black canvas ballet shoes (preferably split sole).

 

TAP

  • Girls Black dancewear (leotards with flesh-colored tights or dance shorts; jazz pants; leggings; black tank tops and black T-shirts are acceptable for this class) and black lace-up tap shoes.
  • Boys- Black dancewear (T-shirts, tank tops, athletic shorts, jazz pants, or sweat pants) and black lace-up tap shoes.

MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE/ JAZZ/ TEAM TWIRL

  • Girls- Black dancewear (leotards with flesh-colored tights or dance shorts; jazz pants; leggings; and fitted tank tops) and tan slip-on jazz shoes. While slip-on jazz shoes are best for learning dance technique in class, tan 2 inch character heels may be required for performances for girls in Musical Theatre Dance III and V and Team Twirl IV.
  • Boys- Black dancewear (T-shirts, tank tops, athletic shorts, jazz pants, or form fitting sweat pants) and black slip-on jazz shoes.

 

CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL

  • Girls- Black dancewear (leotards with flesh-colored CONVERTIBLE or FOOTLESS tights or dance shorts; jazz pants; leggings; and fitted tank tops) with bare feet.
  • Boys- Black dancewear (T-shirts, tank tops, athletic shorts, jazz pants, or form fitting sweat pants) with bare feet.

ACROBATICS

  • Girls- Black dancewear (leotards with flesh-colored CONVERTIBLE or FOOTLESS tights or dance shorts; jazz pants; leggings; and fitted tank tops) with bare feet.
  • Boys- Black dancewear (T-shirts, tank tops, athletic shorts, jazz pants, or form fitting sweat pants) with bare feet.

HIP HOP

  • Any style Twirl T-shirt must be worn (available for purchase in the Twirl lobby).
  • Pants or shorts- any appropriate active wear that allows students to move freely is allowed. Please no jeans.
  • Black sneakers with clean soles that turn relatively freely on the floor.
  • Crop tops, half tops, or sports bras are not allowed.
  • Clothing with inappropriate words, logos, or phrases is not allowed.

DOWN SYNDROME DANCE

  • Girls- Black dancewear including T-shirts, sweat pants, and shorts (leotard and tights are not required). Sneakers with clean soles or tan slip-on jazz shoes.
  • Boys- Black dancewear and sneakers with clean soles or black slip-on jazz shoes.

 

SUMMER CAMPS

  • There is no specific dress code for Twirl Summer Camps. Dance wear is not required and campers can wear whatever allows for free movement. Street shoes may not be worn on dance floors. Campers may wear dance shoes, but if they don’t have them then it’s best that they go barefoot since socks tend to be slippery. Leotard tops, snug tank tops, or shirts that are long enough to be tucked in are recommended for camps that include acrobatics. Please no crop tops, half tops, or sports bras (with nothing worn over them).
